Workshop Overview:

The workshop consisted of discussions about native plants, and in particular which species work best in the coastal landscapes of the Deal Island Peninsula area (e.g., plants that can withstand saltwater intrusion or spray, sandy soils, and effectively absorb excess rainwater). Participants were given the opportunity to map out landscape plans for Bill Princiotta's property using the tools provided by workshop hosts. In addition to discussions about landscaping techiques, Becky Grinath from Worcester County Health Department,  provided information on Maryland Health Connection, a health insurance assistance program available for watermen and small business & agricultural communities throughout the lower Eastern Shore interested in acquiring or renewing health coverage.

Special thanks to Bill Princiotta for hosting us and to Katelin Frase of Environmental Concern, Inc. for leading the workshop. For more information about the workshop, please contact Jen Dindinger (dinding@umd.edu). For more information about Maryland Health Connection, please contact Becky Grinath (rebecca.grinath@maryland.gov).
